Kate Boyce Solo – New Work at The Calder Gallery September 2009This series of work entitled ‘A different Light’ is a selection of landscapes, portraits and townscapes. My concern is with capturing a moment in time when the true beauty of a subject shines through.
With my landscapes, largely of the Calder valley I am aiming to capture a dramatic light created by a combination of weather conditions, seasons or time of day. I am fascinated by how the landscape can change and colours and contrasts strengthen in a certain light.
My portraits are inspired by faces in a crowd and a first impression formed by the meeting of eyes and the fleeting glimpse of a stranger.
With my townscapes in contrast, I am aiming to reflect the sense of history and a meeting of moments in time eternally inherent in a place. I have used old book and magazine pages, and mixed media from drawing to digital print to add narrative.
